Leo hits the schools for Lace'em Up program
Leo and the students of the Iowa BIG program are making their way into local schools and promoting the "Lace'em Up With Leo Program."
The campaign started Friday, December 13 at Benton Community Schools and continued Monday, December 16 at Linn-Grove Elementary in Marion. Other assemblies are planned after the new year at other schools in the Linn-Mar, College, and Cedar Rapids communities.
Students of the Iowa BIG program organized the "Lace'em Up With Leo Program" with the River Kings to instill the importance of exercising to younger students.
"It really sets up their future," said Iowa BIG junior Hudson Haynes. "If you start out at an early age and getting active, it will lead on, hopefully for the rest of their lives."
Iowa BIG is a high school program for sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the Linn-Mar, College, and Cedar Rapids communities that is designed to help students lead their own journey and discovering their gifts, talents, and interests.
The goal of the "Lace'em Up With Leo Program" is to get students to exercise at least 30 minutes/session and earn footballs around the Cedar Rapids River Kings field. Students can earn prizes as they go up and down the field on their checklist.
Students can complete all four levels for their chance to win one of three prizes: 2 season tickets to all 2021 River Kings home games, party package from Studio 360, or XBOX One.
Prizes can be gained along the way by completing each level. Prizes include one free ticket to any River Kings 2020 home game, mini football, souvenir cup, walk on the field at the 2020 home opener, etc.
Exercising can involve any moment of at least 30 minutes/session such as running, walking, biking, basketball, football, push-ups, jumping jacks, etc.
The "Lace'em Up With Leo Program" is sponsored by Milex Complete Auto Care, Allegra: Print, Mail, Signs, and Anytime Fitness, Tommy's Car Wash.
